About

Mutual Aid with Gilly is a fundraising organization started to provide a way to fundraise directly for individuals and small groups in need. Gilly is a streamer on Twitch and posts (probably too much) on Twitter. You can find him at these links:

Currently, Gilly is supported by a wonderful community, but the Mutual Aid with Gilly organization is still run solely by him, with guidance sought when needed.

What We Do:

We fundraise as a form of direct action and mutual aid.
Our goal is aiding individuals in need as a first priority, and aiding small focused groups in areas of critical need as a second priority. When picking groups to fundraise for, we prioritize organizations and funds that specifically help marginalized groups.

We help platform and promote creators from marginalized groups.
Currently, this effort is done by promoting these creators on social media, but future efforts will be in inviting these creators onto streams to more directly show their work to an audience.

We provide direction and advice to others looking to fundraise.
This advice is in the form of post-mortem writeups created at the end of each event so we can communicate our successes and failures in a way that might help others to be more successful in their own mutual aid efforts.

What We Don’t Do:

We do not fundraise for large nonprofits.
While it is valuable and valid for individuals to help groups like the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, or the ACLU, these organizations already have the clout and momentum to drive their own donations. We may encourage individuals to make donations to these groups during specific emergencies, but we will not direct our own mutual aid funds to them.

We do not promote creators who have substantial fanbases.
When choosing creators to platform, we focus on raising up small creators and voices. We believe that empowering the smallest voices is the most impactful action we can take.
